Pet portrait drawing

STEP 2 : outlining

Using the thinest fine-liner, size 005 we begin outlining over the top of the pencil markings. I currently use Pigma Micron fineliners. For outline drawings I use the smallest size 005. Aim to keep your lines thin by not pressing too hard on your paper. This is an outline of your drawing not a final render. We don’t need any thick hard lines at this stage. Also remember to practice drawing with a piece of scrap paper under your drawing hand, to stop oils from your skin marking the paper. You can check the material list for artist quality fineliners: https://www.jessicajaneillustration.com/materials

Take your time and continuously compare your reference image for direction. Outline faintly every traced pencil line. Fur lines use short too long soft strokes. Non fur areas such as nose, eyes, claws and shadows use stippling.  Once outlined and ink is dry use an eraser to rub out all pencil markings.  Use a large clean brush too remove eraser excess. Scan over image to see that all pencil markings are removed.
